Rotinom
Description:
After collecting TV’s from the side of the road for over a year, I began smashing them to find what kind of cool glitches could be created. Similar to creacking open a geode or an egg, beautiful colors and compositions were revealed as a result of the the liquid crystal being displaced, pixel grid tranistors exploading, disjointed polarizers and color filters, and failing LED’s. Depending on which thing breaks when it gets smashed will you either get lines of color running vertical and horizontal, rainbow and oil slick like patterns, spiderweb cracks, or just blotchy dead zones. This project evolved into an interactive piece where I covered the monitors in a polycarbonate sheets so viewers could push on and move around the liquid crystal.
